Questions for today
Despite the reputation of bloggers, we don’t always have all the answers. So, here are some random questions for the day:
Question: Why are some Catholics in Ontario complaining about P.C. Leader John Tory’s proposal to fund religious schools? Isn’t the Catholic School Board a religious school board? Where in the bible does it tell us to practice hypocrisy?
Question: If a Canadian high dollar was going to decimate the tourist economies of our border towns, why is the traffic so busy that it takes 30 minutes to drive across 12 blocks in Niagara Falls, Ontario at 8 p.m. on a Saturday night?
Question: If the debt market contracts further, putting a halt to mega LBO deals, what will the dead tree media have to write about each day if not private equity?
Question: Why is the RCMP picking up former Prime Minister Jean Chretien at the airport and driving him around? Is there a specific Taliban terrorist threat against him that suggests personal security is needed for someone who hasn’t been PM for several years? (Note, the RCMP does not provide regular protection to retired PMs, unlike the Secret Service in the USA. Only on request of the individual.)
Question: Why, when you get a par in golf, do you get momentarily cross ’cause you think it should have been a birdie?
Question: If the local tech IPO market is booming, and tech shares are appreciating in value post IPO, why aren’t institutional investors scrambling to support tech-focused venture capital firms?
Question: When David Radler plead guilty, Queen’s University immediately gave back the millions that he and dozens of individual Hollinger newspapers donated to name the “Radler Wing” at the Queen’s School of Business. If Lord Black loses his appeal, will Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children take the Black Family Foundation’s name off the sign on University Avenue and give back the money ($5MM) that Mr. Black’s Foundation, Hollinger ($2MM+?) and the National Pest ($1MM?) donated to name the “Black Family Foundation Wing”? Moreover, why don’t Hollinger shareholders want those funds back now?!?
